This singer-songwriter who uses her voice as an instrument combines Indian vocal techniques with other cultures and genres, part of a wider trend that has led to Indian musical influences playing an increasingly prominent role in contemporary jazz. Winning praise from the likes of Bobby McFerrin for her technique of crossing Carnatic sounds with scat singing, Vari has collaborated with Jacob Collier, Béla Fleck, Anoushka Shankar and Snarky Puppy – earning her a Grammy nomination among other accolades, and her albums are released on the same label as Söndörgö’s. Her band boasts a line-up of outstanding, highly sought-after musicians, so we can count on Vari’s first Hungarian appearance being a unique event.
