A Szegedi Szabadtéri Játékok műsorát a 2020-as évad végén egy igazi klasszikus musical-legenda premierje zárja: Leonard Bernstein West Side Story-ja, melyet a Rómeó és Júlia történetéből inspirálódva írt a mester. Érdekesség, hogy a művet már 1965-ben, 4 évvel a 11 Oscar-jelölést besöprő filmadaptáció megjelenése után bemutatták a Szegedi Szabadtérin. Ez volt a fesztivál első musicalbemutatója.
