Is there anybody in the world who doesn’t know the heart-wrenching story of Cinderella? This classical fairy tale couldn’t have been in best hands than in Rossini’s so as to compose a perfect operetta, just followed the incredible success of The Barber of Seville. Nowadays, the popularity of the Cinderella competes with the fame of the prevoius one, thanks to the romantic story accompanied by an elaborated composition and outstanding bravuras. This variation of the traditional Cinderella story, by the request of Rossini, goes without fabled elements with the intent to get it closer to an everyday story. The story is set in the 18th century Italy, and the wicked stepmother is replaced by a wicked stepfather, Don Magnifico, the Fairy Godmother is replaced by Alidoro, who is a philosopher and is also the Prince's tutor. Cinderella (named Angelina) is identified not by her glass slipper but by her bracelet at the happy reunion of the lovers. In this romantic performance spiced by stint of humour, adults and children equally can find an engageable entertainment.
