A francia barokk zene emléke előtt hódoló zongoraműve, a Le tombeau du Couperin 1914 ás 1917 között született, zenekari átirata pedig 1919-ben. A kompozíció meglepően hamar eljutott Magyarországra, először 1922-ben, a Svéd Királyi Balett vendégjátéknak zenéjeként szólalt meg, az eredeti zongoraaverzió pedig éppen 100 éve, 1925-ben.

But how are the building blocks of music assembled? In what way do individual instruments and solo parts support and complement each other?

This multi-art production draws on the song, dance and literary traditions of Mezőség (Câmpia Transilvaniei), a region in Transylvania with a very exciting and colourful culture. Musically, the show is centred around movements from Mikrokosmos, Béla Bartók’s piano cycle, as well as the melodies from Mezőség that inspired him.

The idea for The Nutcracker ballet came from theone-time director of the Tsarist theatre who, based on E.T.A. Hoffmann’s fairy tale entitled the Nutcracker and the Mouse King, wanted to stage a fairy tale ballet that would surpass all that had gone before, both in sound and in spectacle. Tchaikovsky was asked to compose the music and after Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty his third and final ballet was also a great success. It was the six-movement suite of the music of The Nutcracker that was first performed in March 1892, and in December of the same year the spectacularly presented theatrical work was also performed. The Nutcracker has become the most frequently played ballet piece of all time.

A box can hide many things, especially if we can passthrough it into another, fairy-tale, magical dimension. The protagonist of the piece tries to make friends in a game world and meets various puppets. He learns that they have the same emotions, the same bonds and relationships develop between them as if they were people, and maybe he can even fall in love with one of them.
